This is Halloween

Did your kids come home from pre-school singing this? Mine sure did! And I will add the music to my stories when I post about Halloween… like I do every year.

Now that I have one child in college and the other in high school, I do miss when they were little and they found the magic in Halloween. As a mom who loves entertaining and hosting and using my imagination, I threw a Halloween party every year for my daughter and her friends. First, they played games, wrapped themselves up like mummies in TP, used a Polaroid to take pics in front of a backdrop, and created art projects with stickers, etc. Then came make your own pizzas – I set out pre-made dough, sauce, cheese and toppings and baked them off for them. After dinner they decorated their own cupcakes, and again, I set out all of the ingredients. Lastly, they would watch a movie – complete with a concessions stand where they could curate their own movie treats. It truly brought me so much joy to see kids being kids and not glued to devices. They laughed, they talked, they complimented each other on their pizza and cupcake designs. To say I miss that time in my daughter’s life is a gross understatement.

Mind you, this was all happening well into middle school and then the pandemic hit. BUT since I was teaching online cooking classes, you better believe that didn’t stop us from celebrating with her friends! We had Halloween cupcake wars and had professional cookie decorators as the judges. We made fall treats – click here for the recipe packets that have many of the desserts we made.

If you still have young kids, this is such a simple thing to do and creates core memories not only for them, but for you.

Let me know if you try it out!
